How to Install and Use Electronic Documents and Word TemplatesWhen you receive our Electronic Document Forms by e-mail, go to the attachments in your e-mail and Save the files to your hard drive (C:). If you received Template files (*.DOT)If the files you receive from us are *.DOT files, save the files to either your User Template or Workgroup Template location. You can find out where this is located in Word in the menu pull-down Tools / Options / File Locations tab. Which location you choose depends on whether you want these forms to be shared among many users on a network or just yourself.
If you receive Document files (*.DOC) SaveAs Template in WordIf you receive *.DOC documents instead of *.DOT Templates, you can open the forms and File / SaveAs a *.DOT template. Your word processor should automatically place them in your User Template directory. You may want to personalize them before you save them as templates. For example, you may want to add your own logo or name and address to the appropriate location the form. Save the document as a template and this information will be there the next time you use the template.
Where are my Templates Stored? In your Word processor, go to the menu Tools / Options / File Locations Check where your Workgroup Templates or User Templates are stored.
Start a new Document with a TemplateTo use the Template, use the menu option File / New and you will see the template names in a list. Double Click on the template you want to use. A new document is formed based on the template you selected. The original template is not changed but is used as a pattern for your new document.
Macro Error MessageSome of our templates have a macro that switched out an unchecked box for a checked box. This is the same macro used in Templates distributed with Word 97 and higher.
You may get this error message when you try to open a template with this macro in it: "The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable macros."
Some companies have disabled macros on their users machines to prevent Word Macro viruses from accidentally being loaded on their machines. If this is the case, use alternative methods for marking checkboxes by either changing the color of the character to RED, or typing over (replacing) the displayed checkbox character with the letter X.
You may be able to enable macros on your personal computer by going to Tools / Macros / Security and select the Medium Security level as shown here:
This will cause Word to always ask you if the macro is safe before you open the template.
